1. Go Your Own Way – Fleetwood Mac – 1977
Such a terribly unhappy song one almost has to laugh at the ironies of their success, Ultimately it inspires me in how to create music – the tension between anger, pain and a simple ebullience of being alive after all of it.
2. Temple of Love [Extended Version] – Sisters of Mercy – 1982
In my assessment nobody should ever have to explain why this is near the top. Very simple boxed structure in some senses, but a symmetric perfection for that.
3. Last Beat of My Heart – Siouxsie and the Banshees
Lifelong regret that I never managed to see Siouxsie and the Banshees Live. Yes all of them. Siouxsie is Siouxsie but Budgie and Severin too. First CD I ever bought, at the exciting time swapping over from vinyl.
